Flowers That Survive a Phoenix Summer

A bouquet left in a hot car does not wilt in a day. It wilts in twenty minutes.

In Phoenix, the flower is the easy part. Getting it to a doorstep at 112 degrees is the job. Most shops in the Valley deliver in an ordinary car, which means your arrangement spends the afternoon at cabin temperature, in traffic, on a seat that is hotter than the air outside.

We built our delivery around the heat instead of hoping to beat it.

Our van has a cooler built into it

Flowers leave our walk-in cooler and stay cold until the moment they are handed over. Not a cooler bag, not a bucket of ice on the floor — a refrigerated compartment built into the van. In a Phoenix summer that is the difference between an arrangement that lasts a week and one that arrives already tired.

Cold before it ever leaves the bench

Every stem is conditioned and held in the cooler before it is designed, and the finished arrangement goes straight back into cold storage until the driver takes it. The flower never warms up, cools down and warms up again — which is what actually shortens a bloom's life.

Timing is part of the design

Order by 3 PM Monday through Saturday and it goes out the same day. Deliveries run from 9 AM to 7:30 PM, and in summer the earliest and latest slots are the kindest ones for the flowers. If your recipient will not be home, tell us — in July, a box left in the sun for two hours is a different outcome than a box handed to someone at the door.

When your flowers arrive

Three things, and they take a minute:

Get them inside and into air conditioning first, before anything else.
Top up the water — in dry heat a vase can drop an inch a day.
Keep them out of direct sun and away from a west-facing window, even a closed one.
